Exhausted from combing through your book for errors—and still finding them?
Copy editors are the last line of defense against bad writing, and writing can certainly be bad even when it’s otherwise “clean.”
—The Slot Magazine
Good writing certainly impacts your sales more than clean writing, but for the sake of professionalism and reviews, we want you to have both!
While you shouldn’t have any “bad writing” after your work has gone through our Comprehensive Line Edit, we strongly recommend a final set of eyes and a fresh perspective before publishing. Every editing phase focuses on different elements of development and fine-tuning; thus small prose “bugs” can still hide out under all that revision and red pen!
We have two key options to ensure your best foot is forward:
Our Deluxe Copyedit provides a final, fresh set of eyes to catch any last issues that might trip up readers. It includes reading for clarity, tightening wordy prose, smoothing awkward transitions, and making sure point-of-view stays consistent. It also deals with accuracy, sentence structure, grammar, spelling, punctuation, hyphenation, typos, proper capitalization, and small inconsistencies of style or within a narrative. It covers correct ordering of the chapters and a review of all the front matter (often not present during earlier editing phases) to ensure every page has the stamp of approval.
Fiction: $0.0087 per word (with a $195 minimum price for works over 10,000 words and a $129 minimum for works under 10,000 words)
Nonfiction: $0.015 per word (footnotes, graphics, unique style guide requirements, etc., require additional charges; there is a $195 minimum price for works over 10,000 words and a $129 minimum for works under 10,000 words)
Our Proofread ensures a final, fresh set of eyes; your editor will read the entire manuscript with regard to punctuation, grammar/mechanics, spelling, typos, style guide consistency, and capitalization. It covers correct ordering of the chapters and a review of all the front matter, giving the prose a professional, polished shine. (If you are investing in a self-published print book for a speaking or business platform, we recommend both a Deluxe Copyedit and a final Proofread.)
Fiction: $0.0081 per word (with a $195 minimum price for works over 10,000 words and a $129 minimum for works under 10,000 words)
Nonfiction: $0.0095 per word (footnotes, graphics, unique style guide requirements, etc., require additional charges; there is a $195 minimum price for works over 10,000 words and a $129 minimum for works under 10,000 words)
(Note: In traditional publishing, a “proofread” used to apply only to printed galley proofs sent from a press to the publisher to approve the interior layout. If you are looking for an interior layout proof, see below.)
Eschler Editing is amazing! I hired them to do the final edits on my book, … and I am thrilled with the quality of their work. [My editor] was knowledgeable, attentive, personable, and very professional. Angela and her team are excellent to work with, and I highly recommend their services.”

Galley Proofreading: If you are looking for a galley proofread of a typeset manuscript (print layout), we offer that as part of our publishing packages. It deals only with galley formatting standards: visual consistency issues (headers, page numbers, spelling in chapter heads, drop-cap placement) and the aesthetics of the text layout (line and word breaks, spacing, kerning, widow/orphans, etc.). We can look over front and back matter, but this review does not include word-by-word proofreading or handling footnotes, graphics, etc.
Investment: $375 (fiction or non) if separate from our pub packages (To include extras in the galley proofread—footnotes, etc.—contact us for an individualized bid.)
*(Rush deadlines increase costs.)
